Ethiopia is located in East Africa. It occupies part of the so-called "Horn of Africa" (Somali peninsula). In the north Ethiopia borders with Eritrea, in the north-east - with Djibouti, in the east - with Somalia (and part of the boundary has not yet been demarcated), in the south - with Kenya, in the west - with Sudan. The state has no outlet to the sea.

The country's territory is 1 104 300 km². 

Most of the country occupies the Ethiopia highlands with an average elevation of 1,700 meters. Highest point of the plateau and the entire country - Mount Ras Dashen (4623 m) - is located in the north-western part. The relief of the Ethiopian highlands presented dining hills that locals call "Amba". Plateau in the north-east to south-west crossing of the East African Rift Zone, which was formed at the junction of the lithospheric plates, and is an area of ​​seismic activity. In the north-east of the Ethiopian highlands ends abruptly to the Danakil desert plain, which occupies the cavity Afar. Afar Depression contains the lowest point of the continent (116 m below sea level). In the west and south-east of the Ethiopian highlands more smoothly into the desert areas: Sudanese desert with an average altitude of 1000 m and the Ethio-Somali plateau.
