Morocco (Kingdom of Morocco, المملكة المغربية)
Located in the north-west Africa, it is the only country of continent that is not currently a member of the African Union. However, Morocco is part of the League of Arab States, the Arab Maghreb Union, Francophonie, Organization of the Islamic Conference and other organizations. This amazing country is situated on the edge of the African continent, at the intersection of major sea trade routes, and therefore at the crossroads of different cultures. This is a real storehouse of historical monuments attracting many archaeologists and millions of curious tourists.
Very favorable climate and warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea pose Moroccan coast in a row with the most famous and high-quality resort areas. Resting here means to discover new horizons in understanding of the world, partake in culture of the ancient tribes and of course relaxing under the burning African sun. Basic kinds of tourism in the country - excursions and recreation, ecotourism, beach vacation, leisure (surfing, skiing, jeep safaris).
The location, grounds and landscape
In the east and south-east borders with Algeria, in the south - with Western Sahara. In the north it is washed by the Mediterranean Sea and in the west - by the Atlantic Ocean. From Europe country is separated by the Strait of Gibraltar.
The country's territory is 446 550 km².
Country can be roughly divided into four regions: the mountainous region of the Rif, parallel to the Mediterranean coast; Atlas Mountains, that stretch across the state from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rif, separating them from the depression Taza; area of coastal plains coast; valleys, that lay to the south of the Atlas Mountains, passing into the desert.
Population: about 34.9 million people. Arabs constitute close to 60% of the population, rest are the Berbers (39%). 1% of the population are originating from Europe (mostly French, Spanish and Portuguese). Also there is a small number of Jews .
Capital: Rabat with population of more than 1.6 million people.
Biggest cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Fez, Tangier, resorts on the coast - Agadir, Essaouira.
Languages: official language is Arabic, however French and English are also widely spoken, Spanish in the northern part of the country.
Religion: Islam is the state religion of Morocco. Most believers - Sunni Muslims (99%). In addition, there are Christians in the country, mainly Catholics and Jews.
