A large part of Jordan (80%) takes a desert plateau. It starts from the shores of the Jordan River in the west, gradually increasing and reaching a height of 900 m. Further east, it gradually decreases, passing in the Syrian desert in the north-east. In the west of the country stretches Rift Valley, which includes the Jordan River, the Dead Sea and Wadi Araba basin. The highest point in the country - mountain Jabal Rum (1734 m) located in the southern part of Jordan, the lowest - on the shores of the Dead Sea (408 meters below sea level).
