Czech Republic (Česká republika)   

A small country in Central Europe. Country's name comes from the ethnonym title - Czechs. Despite its ancient origins the modern Czech Republic was formed on January 1 1993 as a result of the collapse of the socialist Czechoslovakia, which splits into two independent states: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Since 1 May 2004, the country is a member of the European Union.

Today the Czech Republic is one of the most visited tourist destination in Europe, which has a well-preserved architectural and natural sites (palaces, castles, parks, etc.), medical and spa facilities and ski resorts. Here are the world-famous Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and the famous Czech beer, Becherovka, gorgeous bohemian crystal. Main types of tourism in the Czech Republic are excursions and recreation.

The location, grounds and landscape

The Czech Republic comprises three historical regions - Bohemia, Moravia and part of Silesia and is bordered by Poland in the north, Germany - in the northwest and west, Austria - in the south and Slovakia - in the east.

The country's territory is 78,866 km².

Landscape is quite varied: the western part (Bohemia) lies in the basins of the Labe (Elbe) and Vltava (Moldau), surrounded by mostly low mountains (the Sudetenland and their part - Giant Mountains), where the highest point of the country is - Mount Sněžka height is 1602 m, Moravia (eastern part) is also quite hilly and mostly located in the basin of the Morava River (MARCHI), contains a source of the River Odra (Oder). In the Czech Republic there is no sea, but the Czech rivers flow into three seas: the North, Baltic and Black.

The climate and the average temperature

The climate is temperate with warm summers and cold, cloudy and humid in winter, determined by mixing of marine and continental influences.

Weather in the Czech Republic in the summer is quite stable and pleasant, as the mountains surrounding the entire perimeter of the Czech Republic, do not allow the penetration of wind. In winter in the mountains falls enough snow, which allows to operate several ski resorts in the south of the Czech Republic and in the north.

Flora and fauna

Czech Republic is one of the greenest countries in Europe. Forests cover about 30% of its territory. Natural forests of the Czech Republic  are a mixed forest of firs, pines and oaks. Symbolic tree of Czech Republic is linden. Despite the fact that the natural Czech forest was artificially substituted, primarily by spruce landings, one can still find over 30 percent of the initial composition of forests. Above the forest are alpine meadows.

The most common representatives of fauna of the Czech Republic include: hares, otters and martens. In the forests and grasslands you will  often find pheasants, partridges, wild boar, big game, ducks and geese. Rarer  you can meet eagles and herons. In northeastern Moravia can be found occasionally even wolves and brown bears.

 How best to get

Kyiv - Prague UIA has joint Czech Airlines daily direct flights. You can save a little if you get to the Czech Republic by bus from Kiev, Lviv, Dnepropetrovsk or by train.

Regular daily flights Moscow - Prague from "Sheremetyevo-F» is carried out by "Aeroflot" and Czech Airlines (flight duration is about 2.5 hours). You can get to Karlovy Vary by the joint flight of "Aeroflot" and Czech Airlines from Moscow. From St. Petersburg there are direct flights to Prague and with the airline "Russia." Czech Airlines also flies to St. Petersburg, Samara and Yekaterinburg. Moscow and some other russian cities have charters to Pardubice, Brno and Prague.

From Minsk to Prague there are flights by "Belavia" and Czech Airlines, as well as regular trains.

From Kazakhstan to the Czech capital can be reached only with transfer: the flights of "Russia" (in St. Petersburg), "UIA" (in Kiev), KLM (via Amsterdam), Lufthansa (via Frankfurt) and Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul).

 Best time to visit

Of course, best time to visit the Czech Republic is in the summer, late spring or early fall. There are at this time most of the open parks, museums and natural tourist attractions. However the mild climate allows tourists to stay in the country all year round. It is popular trips to Prague for Christmas and New Year. Major ski resorts are open from December to April.

Popular tourist sites

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Here is preserved the true spirit of medieval Europe. Most of the historical sights are in the Old Town. In the capital and its suburbs there are dozens of tourist facilities that can list a very long time, in particular: Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, the Royal Palace, St. Vitus Cathedral, Church of Our Lady before Tyn, Krizik fountain etc.

Cesky Krumlov is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic. City seemed to stop its development in the XVIII century. Its location and the architecture is simply amazing. On fairly narrow S-shaped cliff along the river Vltava were built about 40 buildings and the palace buildings, combined into a single complex around five interlocking squares and castle garden.

Kutna Hora is Czech ancient city that is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site and primarily associated with the Church of All Saints. This unique architectural building is decorated with human bones and skulls. For registration were used remains of 40 thousand people. Also in Kutna Hora you should visit the Gothic Cathedral of St. Barbara and the Mint Museum.

Sichrow Castle is just a place of worship for lovers of mysticism and occultism. Castle shrouded chilling stories and legends about ghosts.

Plzen is the former capital of the Czech Republic, and today it is a"beer capital". The main architectural attractions are the Gothic Church of St. Bartholomew's and the town hall, many tourists do not even remember after visiting numerous pubs.

Karlovy Vary is the most famous, but only one of many health-care Bale resorts of Czech Republic, each of which has its own medical specialty. Karlovy Vary for several centuries was a resort popular for European aristocracy and bohemia. This resort also attracts many lovers of alcohol tourism. In Karlovy Vary there are two major plant - Jan Becher and "Krushovitse." Produced drinks «Сarlsbad», «Becherovka» and beer «Krushovitse» are known worldwide. Another attraction of Karlovy Vary is inimitable light and music show "Singing Fountain".

Less known, but no less effective for the treatment and rehabilitation are such resorts as Marianske Lazne, Trebon, Yahimov Frantiskovy, Lazne, Teplice, Luhacovice, Jesenik, Kynžvart,  Janske Lazne, Trebon.

Bohemian Paradise is a nature reserve in the north-east of the Czech Republic. Extraordinarily beautiful place for outdoor activities.

The most popular winter recreations are Spindleruv Mlyn, Harrachov, Pec pod Sněžkou.
