Denmark (Kongeriget Danmark)  

State in Northern Europe, located on the Jutland peninsula and several islands in the north of Germany. The country is famous for its picturesque towns, castles and monuments of past centuries, cool shady beech forests and beautiful lakes. The coastline varies from wide sandy beaches to the western part of small rocky bays and fjords neat, dunes and cliffs in the north.

Miniature Denmark is often called as "Pearl of the Scandinavian Peninsula," because on its territory focused valuable treasures of culture and history. In Denmark there are historical landmarks, you can see the remains of a Viking settlement, castles and palaces. Denmark is located on the peninsula of Jutland and Funen, Zealand, Falster, Lolland, Bornholm, part of the North Frisian, etc. In southern Jutland Denmark borders with Germany and is washed by the North Sea and the Baltic; Skagerrak Strait separates Denmark from Norway, Kattegat and Öresund - from Sweden. Formally part of Denmark includes the largest island in the world - Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

The country's territory is 43,094 km².

Landscape of the country is lowland. The terrain is flat with traces of glaciation. Located on the west Jutland and sandy moraine plains in the north and east - with undulating ridges of moraines up to 173 m, and numerous lakes. Dominated by small rivers, the most significant of them is Goodenough. On the plain there are numerous small flow glacial lakes. Forests cover about 10% of the territory.

Religion: 84.3% of Danes are members of the state church of the Danish People (Den Danske Folkekirke), which belongs to Lutheranism. The rest of the population professes mainly other denominations of Christianity. These are Catholics, Adventists, Baptists, Methodists, about 3% are Muslims.

The climate and the average temperature

The climate of continental Denmark part is temperate sea, it softens the warm Gulf Stream. Summer is quite clear with warm weather, traditionally the hottest month is July. Average daily temperatures in July is -18 .. 20 degrees and night it is  about 11 .. 13 degrees. Average annual rainfall ranges from 800 mm in the west coast of Jutland to 450 mm on the coast of the Great Belt strait. Maximum precipitation falls during the period from July to October, the maximum number occurs in September (90 mm ​​in the west, up to 40 mm in the east).

Flora and fauna

The landscapes of Denmark belong to one of three types: farmland, treeless community (meadows, marshes, moors) and forest plantations. Forest as at 2005 occupied about 11.8% of the country. Indigenous deciduous (beech and oak) forests were destroyed during the development of the territory, now it is planted annually about 3000 hectares of forests. Cultivated on the islands is dominated by oak forest, on the Jutland peninsula - softwood (spruce, pine).

In the country live 49 species of mammals, 19 of them are immediately included in the Red Book of Denmark. Most of them are its rodents and insectivores. In the forests preserved roe and red deer, in the waters of the North Sea - Baltic ringed seal, harbor seal, seal dlinnomordy. Since 1850 Denmark lost about 350 native species of plants and animals.

Favorite vacation spot for locals is amusement park "Tivoli" - the oldest amusement park in the world (opened in 1843).

Roskilde is the ancient capital of Denmark (status as the capital moved to Copenhagen only in the 15th century), which is located 30 km west of Copenhagen. Here is the most interesting old cathedral, where the remains of crowned heads are. The city is often called the "capital of the Vikings" and in Nautical Museum you can see ships up from the bottom of the bay, where the Vikings went to their campaigns. In the vicinity of Roskilde every summer here plays the famous rock festival.

Faroe Islands are one of the most beautiful places in the North Atlantic. They attract tourists with its amazing colorful landscapes and nature, as well as large rookeries. Faroe Islands comprise 18 islands with a total area of ​​1399 square km, which are located in the North Atlantic in the Norwegian Sea between the Shetland Islands and Iceland. The surface of the island is a volcanic plateau, the average altitude is 300 m above sea level, the highest point is the peak on the island Slaettaratindur Osterøy (882 m). The coastline is deeply indented and mostly represented by fjords. All the islands are inhabited, except for a small island Lytle Dimun. It's a great place for hiking and fishing. Faroe Islands is best to visit in the summer months when rainfall is unlikely and is warm comfortable weather.
