The location, grounds and landscape
The whole country is very mountainous; it forms a vast plateau, consisting of gneiss, granite and other entities; in the eastern part of it is cut up by large valleys, and in the west and north - deep jutting out into land sea fjords. In many places, the mountains are rounded, and scenery is mostly the form of a large undulating plateau on which valleys and bays seem insignificant cracks. Of the entire area occupied country, 39,000 km ² lie 1000 m above sea level, 91 000 square kilometers - at an altitude of 500 to 1000 m. Average height above the sea surface of the whole space of Norway reaches about 490 m. Due to all this - the amount of processed or generally suitable for agricultural land represents a very small proportion of the whole space: only 2,400 km ² is occupied by pastures. 235 000 square kilometers occupy the uninhabited mountains, swamps, and so on, and 7,000 square kilometers - glaciers.
