A beatiful country in Central Europe. Slovenia is situated in the north-west of the Balkan Peninsula in the eastern part of the Alps. This is one of the smallest countries in Europe. The country's independence was proclaimed June 25, 1991. 1 May 2004 Slovenia joined the European Union. The location, grounds and landscape 

Slovenia borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the east and Croatia in the south. A small area in the west of the country is washed by Adriatic Sea.

The country's territory is 20 253 km². 

The relief of the northern and north-western part of the country is mountainous, the highest point belongs to the Julian Alps - Triglav mount (2,864 m). Slovenia is situated in the south of Karst karst fields, where, due to the destructive processes of limestone, formed numerous lakes. Throughout the country flows tributary of the Danube - the Sava river.
