Country in Central America in the south-east of the Yucatan Peninsula. Until 1973 was known as British Honduras. Most of the territory of the country is low-lying, marshy plain with a lot of lakes and lagoons. In the south of the Maya Mountains extend up to 1122 m. This is the most sparsely populated part of Belize.
